A Snapshot of Your Day

The Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for developing manufacturing processes for new power generation turbine airfoil components. They provide on-going shop floor support of conventional machining and related processes.

They spend equal time working within establish manufacturing systems creating process documentation for production execution and working on the shop floor to observe and improve processes as well as process execution.

The Manufacturing Engineer owns product manufacturing from development of processes, assist in shop floor execution, perform data analysis to drive process improvement, and interact with Product Engineering departments to address non-conformances and opportunities to improve design manufacturability.  They work collaboratively with CNC Programmers, Fixture Engineers, CMM Programmers, and Set-up Operators daily in these efforts.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Complete the development and implementation of manufacturing work instructions for complex machining processes including line-ups, standard operating processes, and quality control process sheets for multi-axis milling machines. Collaborate with management, product engineering, peer engineers, and operators to realize high quality, stable processes for complex, multi-axis milling production of rotating blades and stationary vanes components.
  • Lead team in development of Manufacturing Quality Control Plans / Part Inspection Plans for managing and improving capability of the production process. Project leadership of development and qualification projects (scheduling, design of experiments, experimentation, reporting, documentation) with full responsibility for due dates, results and costs associated with your field of activities.
  • Review in process product quality control information (manual and CMM dimension checks) and work with production personnel to adjust production run machining processes. Work with production personnel to implement, troubleshoot, and improve machining and associated processes.
  • Collaborate with Quality Engineer to conduct Root Cause Corrective Analyses. Communicate with customers to understand requirements and communicate process deviations (NCRs).
  • Lead continuous process improvements (analysis, solution finding, implementation) around machining processes and methods.  Perform and assess manufacturing data to determine opportunities for improvement and lead teams to successfully implement changes.
  • Support quoting efforts by providing cost estimates. Assist and provide direction for design and development of fixturing for machining processes. Assist in design of specialty cutting tools for precision form milling. Review cutting tool inventory and adjust stocking levels based on production run usage. Lead and support CAPEX projects and ROI calculations.

What You Bring

  • Associate degree required in engineering or related field. Bachelors preferred.
  • 1+ years relevant and proven manufacturing engineering experience; preferably with 4- or 5-axis machining is required. Those with more experience may be considered for a higher level.
  • Skilled in interpretation of product and manufacturing drawings and GD&T specifications. Knowledge in identifying, analyzing, and correcting machining process issues such as surface finish, cutter wear, machining process stability, and dimensional control.
  • Knowledge in process control for machining as well as in statistical process analysis and design-of-experiments. Working knowledge of MS office (Project, Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook). Preferred working experience with SAP, NX, and Teamcenter systems.
  • Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.
