A Snapshot of your Day:

Siemens Energy is looking for an experienced mechanical or aerospace engineer with background in Secondary Air System, Sealing Design and Clearance Control to lead technology programs in support of existing and new Large Gas Turbine designs.

The Technology group is responsible for developing advanced design methods for materials at high temperatures.  As Lead Secondary Air System and Sealing Design Engineer, you will work in a team of engineers on development projects for new products and service upgrades. You will work independently on your individual tasks in joint coordination of priorities within a global team.  You will also work together with project managers, component engineers and colleagues from production and service.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Leading the development of secondary air systems, advanced sealing design and clearance control technologies for Large Gas Turbines
  • Evaluation of operation and findings from prototypes and the current fleet
  • Creation of calculation models to describe the cooling air supply of hot gaspath components in a gas turbine and evaluation of the results
  • Creation of calculation models to describe the transient heating and expansion of the entire gas turbine and determining the optimum assembly gaps between rotating and stationary components of the gas turbine
  • Evaluation of model results to optimize designs for best performance
  • Statistical curve fitting of test data and assessment of data distribution impact on component designs
  • Probabilistic evaluations of full calculation process, including variations in material properties, component loading, and boundary conditions to define required safety margins
  • Conducting fleet validation of new methods and properties for maturity to design utilization
  • Coordination of work packages with required interface teams in matrix organization
  • Preparation of Engineering documents and presentation of technical results
  • Ensuring overall success of design projects for time, cost and quality

What You Bring

Basic Qualifications:

  • BS in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering or related field and 15 years’ experience in Gas Turbine industry
  • MS or PhD in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering or related field and 3 years’ experience in Gas Turbine industry
  • Strong background in turbomachinery heat transfer and fluid mechanics
  • Familiarity with 3D flow solvers and experience with engineering numerical software (e.g. Ansys, NX, StarCCM, etc)
  • Strong background in data analysis, curve fitting, and statistics
  • Highly motivated, proactive and self-directed
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.
