A Snapshot of Your Day

As a Test Engineer specialising in panel testing, you will start your day by planning and preparing to ensure all safety and operational protocols are in place. You will collaborate with project and design teams to confirm that all the latest designs are in place, utilising general arrangements and schematics diagrams to ensure that each Protection and Control panel is presented and wired to specification.

Throughout the day, you will oversee the setup and operation of 48/110 DC and 230V AC systems, ensuring all components of the P&C panels are operating correctly, whilst adhering to safe methods of practise. You will ensure full continuity of wiring, full label and ferrule compliance, troubleshoot any issues, and prepare detailed test reports. Your role will be integral to the successful testing of Siemens Energy’s world-class Protection & Control Equipment.

How You’ll Make an Impact:

·       Test Execution: Plan and execute safe, timely, and cost-effective P&C test activities, specialising in point-to-point testing using both AutoCAD and Engineering Base generated schemes, wiring diagrams and schedules, 2kV flash testing whilst ensuring client requirements are met.

·       Collaboration: Work closely with the operations manager, wire persons and design team to ensure the contractual scope of work and corresponding test conditions are implemented.

·       Documentation: Develop test time estimates, procedures, and necessary documentation to fulfil testing requirements whilst recording the panel with photographic evidence.

·       Support and Troubleshooting: Guide the design team and wire persons, ensure correct panel functionality, and lead troubleshooting efforts for equipment defects and failures.

·       Standards Development: Develop, review, and revise test procedures and standards for P&C panels, incorporating new codes and best practices.

What You Bring:

·       Educational Background: HNC/HND or equivalent in Electrical Engineering, or a related Engineering field (advanced relevant experience in Protection & Control Panel manufacturing and testing may be substituted for degree qualifications).

·       Experience: 5+ years of relevant experience in Electrical/Electronic Manufacturing through roles in Engineering, Manufacturing, Testing, Project Management, or Proposals.

·       Expertise: Specific experience and expert knowledge (5+ years) of interpreting traditional both AutoCAD and Engineering Base generated schemes, wiring diagrams and schedules for the correct functionality testing of panels, including the ability to operate low voltages in a safe manner, and familiarity with standards set in place by UK Transmission suppliers.

  • Preferred Skills: Familiarity with configuration file upload to IED’s but not vital.

Your Opportunities for Personal Growth:

·       Visibility and Impact: Reporting directly to the Operations Manager, you will be an integral part of the overall project team, responsible for the final product quality, ensuring a smooth transition of products into the Factory Acceptance Test department.

·       Professional Development: Become an active participant in the global Siemens Energy DG community, sharing best practices and staying updated on the latest products and developments in the field.
