We are seeking a Design Engineer, Substations. The Siemens Energy Grid Solutions Substation Design Engineering department comprises of professionals with experience in Primary, Secondary and Civil Engineering for detailed Engineering, Procurement and Construction Projects for Substations (Air Insulated Substations and Gas Insulated Switchgear substations), Data Centers and electrification projects. As part of the engineering team, you will work collaboratively throughout the life-cycle of a project to prepare and review detailed engineering documentation for bidding, procurement, design, construction and commissioning.
Preferred work location: Raleigh, North Carolina
- Preparing, reviewing, and modifying engineering documentation and drawings, including wiring diagrams and station layouts, bill of materials and cable lists for Substation projects
- Develop switchgear and/or control room layout drawings for proposals and projects.
- Prepare Preliminary Power Single Line Diagrams, Aux Power Single Line diagrams and Protection One-line diagrams
- Create and develop High Voltage and Medium Voltage substation layouts, including plan views, section views, equipment views, and details.
- Perform cable ampacity, grounding, lightning, illumination, and station auxiliary load calculations.
- Create Equipment Specifications and detail bill of materials.
- Review customer request for proposal documentation and identify any necessary exceptions, deviations, or clarifications
- Development of scope of work and Work Break-down Structure (WBS) documents and high-level engineering execution plans for Siemens Energy engineering
- Managing interfaces with multiple internal and external stakeholders, such as customers, Siemens Energy engineering, Engineering contractors, suppliers, and site contractor(s)
- Monitor/Report project engineering progress and implement mitigation and corrective actions in coordination with project management; help identify and analyze project risks, and help propose remedial actions
- Perform technical due diligence and checking on supplier quotes for equipment and engineering services
- Attend site visits as required to customer project locations during Request for Proposal phase to gather information, and during project phase to support construction and commissioning.
What You Bring
- Bachelor of Science degree or higher in Electrical Engineering
- 5 or more years of experience working on substation projects. *Candidates with more experience can be considered for a higher level or vice-versa.
- Licensed Professional Engineer is preferred
- Prior experience in Engineering Design for utility power projects is desirable
- Experience with AutoCAD
- Strong verbal and written skills in English
- Knowledge of ANSI and IEC standards.
