About the Role
A Snapshot of Your Day
You will be part of our research and development department which has a strong focus on increasing fuel flexibility such as hydrogen and biofuel. In your role as Combustion Specialist, you will contribute to the design and operation of robust, reliable and highly efficient combustion systems as well as providing day-to-day support for our sales and service organizations. You will be involved in the highest level of troubleshooting, failure investigation and leading improvement projects, taking an active role in our high-level support to service organizations and existing fleets. To achieve this, you’ll use both commercial and proprietary calculation tools to analyze data and develop new improved combustion components.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- You will be involved throughout the development process, from concept through to final design
- You will guide development tests and evaluate resulting data, using this to develop new methods and working practices
- Based on your work you will propose changes to the engine configuration to improve combustion dynamics and emissions, particularly for compatibility with green fuel where your keen ability to analyze and propose changes will help the team to improve machine performance
- provide feedback regarding the performance of a system and provide recommendations for flow path corrections to improve system behavior.
- Aero-thermal system design tasks for the combustion system (fluid behaviour); including air, fuel flows, noise, temperature & pressure conditions and the reacting flow:mixing, emissions, heat transfer, fuel properties, combustion dynamics.
- Assess data, numerical simulations (CFD, both non-reacting and reacting, thermo-acoustics) and experimental work (atmospheric rig, HP rig, and engine testing).
- You will have the opportunity to build a large interdisciplinary network that stretches across the globe, from Europe to North America and Asia, spanning people working across the full spectrum from new equipment to service support
What You Bring
- You have a master’s degree or PhD in mechanical engineering, chemistry, physics or energy
- You have great problem-solving skills and appreciate working in a team where you get to be part of developing and streamlining
- Applied combustion experience and gas turbine experience is advantageous
