A Snapshot of Your Day

Machinists begin their days normally working 36/40-hour weeks depending on shifts. Once clocked in they put on designated safety gear. After completing these tasks, the machinist will look over their job assignments for the day, ensuring materials, tools and traceability requirements have all been reviewed and are available before starting work.

The daily tasks may vary considerably from one day to another. They may include things like:

  • Operating a computer to retrieve, record and read product data and instructions
  • Calculating dimensions and tolerances with specialized precision measuring tools
  • Using machine tools like lathes, horizontal boring machines, vertical boring machines, broaching and grinders to create machined parts
  • Reading and interpreting blueprints or computer-aided design (CAD) files
  • Setting up, operating, and disassembling both manual and computer numerically controlled (CNC) machines
  • Measuring and testing finished products to verify their quality
  • Cleaning, deburring finished work products
  • Operating cranes to move product

What You Bring 

      Like working with your hands and have a great attention to detail

      Analytical person who is mechanically minded with strong math and communication skills

       Possess strong attention to detail,

      Ability to work autonomously and independently, excel at following directions, and have a grasp of computers

      Experience adjusting machine feeds and speeds, changing cutting tools and adjusting machine controls as needed to ensure final product outcome according to blueprint specifications.

      Have a strong understanding of G-Code & M-Code programming language

Must have 3 years applied trades training, such as use of blueprints, CNC equipment, etc.  Must also be able to read, write, understand, and follow verbal and/or written instructions.  Must qualify for and maintain appropriate equipment certifications of Siemens Energy (i.e. Fork truck, crane, etc.).
