A Snapshot of Your Day

For the Grid Technologies Business, the individual is responsible for the management of subcontractors for power transmission and substation construction projects across Canada (e.g. SVCs and HVDCs), with a focus on civil works, building and installation works.

How You’ll Make an Impact

   Contract Management

  • Draft and negotiate sophisticated terms and conditions for large volume contracts, applying construction and contracting principles, methods, procedures and standard processes.
  • Ensure contractual obligations towards the customer are fulfilled by the suppliers
  • Ensure mitigation of Procurement risks and handle changes to original scope during the execution phase

o   Involvement during bid project phase

  • Analyze scope of supply, contractual obligations and exactly understand customer’s functional needs for all equipment and services
  • Meet with multi-functional partners to provide procurement market and preferred supplier information at an early stage to optimize supplier selection.
  • Include (supplier) innovations and preferred supplier/product portfolios that improve
  • Siemens Energy's cost position and/or the customer's benefit and thereby increase hit rate
  • Support project calculation with reliable and up-to-data cost data.
  • Key area here is on the civil works, building and installation works incl
    • Identification of onsite contractor(s)
    • Qualification and development of relationship with onsite contractor
    • development of RFP package to onsite contractor(s)
    • development of contract model taking into account customer’s terms and risk mitigation strategy for Siemens Energy
    • independent negotiation of quote with limited assistance of the legal department

Involvement during project execution phase

  • Maintain Procurement Plan
  • Complete supplier selection, evaluation and development
  • Lead contractual and price negotiations for equipment and services
  • Meet requirements relating to budget, availability and quality
  • Align with Procurement regulations as per compliance standards
  • Identify and handle Procurement risks, opportunities, potential changes, claims and market forces during the entire project.

What You Bring  

  • Education: University degree, preferably in civil engineering, architecture or comparable field, or comparable training with many years of relevant professional experience
  • Contract Management: In-depth knowledge of construction and contracting principles, methods, procedures and best practices, Negotiations: excellence in independently preparing and carrying out complex negotiations
  • Field:  8+ years' experience in a supply chain and civil works or engineering related position, preferably in a complex project environment. Sector: experience with electrical construction industry, i.e. AIS / GIS / FACTs / HVDC projects is preferred
  • Language: Must speak French and English fluently.
  • Work location: preferably Oakville, Ontario, but Quebec locations can be considered. Travel: Willingness and ability to travel
  • Work ethics: Meticulous, highly motivated with a strong ethical approach and effective management of tasks in a fast-paced environment.
