A Snapshot of your Day

We are seeking a Senior Protection & Control Engineer to be responsible for relay protection and control engineering activities, including basic design, configuration / testing and specification of protection and control systems and review detailed design for high voltage substation and transmission projects. This position will offer the ability to directly apply candidate’s knowledge of protective relaying and controls systems in substation and transmission projects.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Building up and leading a diverse team of engineers
  • Supervising the technical management of C&P offer, including analysis of tender document and closely coordinating with project management and technical specialists.
  • Leading preparation of specification, Bill of Material for Protection/Control/Metering/RTU/Communication Panels.
  • Developing concept of substation relaying & metering diagrams (i.e. A.C. schematic diagrams), and D.C. Schematic for basic design.
  • Developing concept Diagram for substation control system and Communications interfaces including RTUs, HMIs, and IEDs.
  • Developing Protection and Control Panel layouts.
  • Developing high level Cable Schedule for Substation.
  • Performing configuration and Factory Acceptance Test for Protection and Control Panels.
  • Performing reviews of work performed by others.
  • Working closely with other engineering and design team members to coordinate overall design package and requirements.
  • Flexibility to travel locally and internationally to customer meetings and to project sites. (Approximate travel is 20-30%).

What You Bring

  • BSEE or higher with a power systems emphasis from an ABET-accredited engineering program. MSEE is a plus.
  • 8 or more years of experience with a focus on protection/control/communications design for substations. *Candidates with more experience can be considered for a higher level or vice-versa.
  • Prior experience working with Remote-Terminal Units (RTUs).
  • Prior experience with HMIs and DCSs.
  • Prior experience performing configuration and Factory Acceptance and Site-Acceptance Testing.
  • Prior experience influencing and leading project teams.
  • Deep understanding for high voltage substations protection functions (distance, differential, bus bar protection functions).
  • Experience in writing and providing support documentation for relay calculations.
  • Knowledge on ANSI standards, IEC standards knowledge is a plus. 
  • Experience with various vendor protective relay equipment typically used in substation. protection, including SEL, Siemens, GE.
  • Know-How in Configuration Tools for protection relays from different vendors (SEL, Siemens, Hitachi, GE, Schneider …) and control systems.
  • Familiar with AutoCAD or MicroStation.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Professional Engineering license preferred.
