A Snapshot of Your Day

The 2nd shift (Mon. – Fri., 4pm – Midnight) rotor balancer sets up and operates balance facilities for balancing and testing large generator rotors, exciter rotors, large & industrial steam turbine rotors, and large gas turbine rotors. At the start of shift, you meet with your team and supervisor to talk about safety, job assignments, and shift goals. Fifteen minutes later you are at your assigned balance facility and continue where 1st shift left off, setting up a large generator rotor for balance. You finish assembling the oil seals on the bearing pedestals and start setting up the vibration probes.  By end of shift you have moved the rotor into the balance facility and have connected the drive shaft and oil lines.  You’ve performed all the required safety and quality checks and filled out the electronic quality control documents.  The setup operations are complete and the rotor is ready to start balancing operations.  Before end of shift, you leave shop notes in the electronic production system for the 3rd shift team.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Setup and align turbine-generator rotors for testing by installing tooling, pedestals, adapter plates, oil seals, bearings, calibrations, controls, fuel system, lube systems, etc. per job documentation, process or engineering assembly and testing specifications.
  • Perform required tests, read results, and record data according to specifications.
  • Calculate balance weight moves using computers and/or manual drawing vectors.
  • Interpret detailed drawings/sketches, blueprints, manufacturing specifications, etc.
  • Use material handling devices (jib cranes, overhead beam cranes, and forklifts), to load/unload parts and/or assists crane operator.
  • Follow Siemens Energy established procedures to operate the balance facilities

What You Bring

  • An associate’s degree, or a high school degree with 3+ years of experience in manufacturing/industrial/assembly operations
  • Strong mathematical knowledge
  • Ability to pass Siemens Energy balancer / math competency exam
  • Ability to read and interpret complicated drawings, specifications, charts, and tables
  • Ability to use precision measuring instruments
  • Ability to obtain fork truck and crane license
  • Knowledge of large rotating equipment & manufacturing processes is a plus

Your opportunities for personal growth

  • You will be assigned a mentor to work with you as you gain the skills needed to work on your own.
  • You will gain skills with balancing a large variety of power generation rotating equipment: large generator rotors, exciter rotor, industrial steam turbine rotors, large steam turbine rotors, and large gas turbine rotors
  • You will interact with internal & external customers during rotor balancing customer witness points

About the Team

Our Large Generator Rotor Operations team is responsible for manufacturing large electric generator rotors weighing up to 275 tons.  We operate within the Large Generator team to supply new 150 – 1000 megawatt generators to power plants all over the world.  In addition to manufacturing new rotors, we also service generator rotors by providing inspections, rewinds, modernizations, and upgrades.

Our Gas Services division offers low-emission power generation through service and decarbonization. Zero or low emission power generation and all gas turbines under one roof, steam turbines and generators. Decarbonization opportunities through service offerings, modernization, and digitalization of the fleet.
