About the Role
A Snapshot of Your Day
As an Application Engineer for Gimpel Valves, you will support a fast-paced Sales and Marketing environment focused on engineered valve solutions for steam turbine applications. You will work closely with internal teams, external customers, engineering firms, and end users to understand application needs, review technical and commercial requirements, and develop proposals for new valves, replacement valves, spare units, upgrades, repairs, and modernization solutions. Your day may include evaluating customer specifications, reviewing drawings and job history, aligning with cross-functional teams, preparing proposal content, and helping shape solutions that meet customer operating needs, safety requirements, outage schedules, and commercial objectives.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Manage assigned customer inquiries from initial RFQ review through proposal release, including review of specifications, drawings, job order history, operating conditions, outage schedules, and stakeholder input.
- Develop engineered Gimpel valve solutions for trip and throttle valve applications, including OOTTV, TMTTV, EHTTV, spare valve units, steam section replacements, actuator upgrades, trip block upgrades, and modernization opportunities.
- Prepare complete proposal inputs, including scope, cost information, pricing recommendations, assumptions, clarifications, exclusions, lead times, documentation requirements, inspection and test requirements, and commercial inputs.
- Coordinate with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, Field Service, Project Management, Sales, and other stakeholders to align technical scope, proposal strategy, customer expectations, and internal approvals.
- Support bundled solutions with Field Service, customer clarification meetings, quote reviews, and inquiry-to-order accuracy to ensure proposals are properly scoped, priced, and scheduled.
- Consolidate technical and commercial scope after order receipt, support handoff to Project Management, and participate in project follow-up discussions to review profitability and identify potential budget overruns.
What You Bring
- Associate degree with 5–10 years of experience in a technical, commercial, proposal, valve, rotating equipment, or similar role. In lieu of degree, experience will be considered. Those with more experience may be considered for a more senior level.
- Ability to interpret machine drawings and P&IDs, evaluate customer requirements, and translate application needs into clear technical and commercial proposal direction.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, writing, organizational, and time management skills, with the ability to work across technical, commercial, customer-facing, and execution teams.
- Experience supporting proposal preparation, pricing recommendations, technical clarifications, customer-facing proposal content, and order handoff activities.
- Comprehensive working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite; Visual Basic, Excel automation, or similar data/tool development skills are a plus.
- Ability to travel up to 25% for customer meetings, site visits, proposal reviews, and technical presentations; international travel may be required.
Preferred Knowledge/Skills, Education, and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in engineering preferred.
- Experience working with Gimpel valves, trip and throttle valves, turbine stop valves, safety shutdown valves, or engineered valve products.
- Experience with OOTTV, TMTTV, EHTTV, or similar steam turbine valve technologies.
- Working knowledge of steam turbine systems, valve actuation systems, hydraulic or oil systems, controls, Safety Instrumented Systems, and SIL-related requirements.
- Experience with refinery, petrochemical, power generation, industrial, or process plant applications.
- Familiarity with ASME/ANSI valve standards, API 611, API 612, MSS-SP-55, NEMA SM 23, inspection and test plans, material requirements, and customer specification review.
- Field Service, project execution, manufacturing, repair, or service center experience; MBA, advanced degree, or bilingual skills such as Spanish, Chinese, Arabic, or other languages are a plus.
Applicants must be legally authorized for employment in the United States without need for current or future employer-sponsored work authorization. Siemens Energy employees with current visa sponsorship may be eligible for internal transfers.
