A Snapshot of Your Day

As the Head of Testing Field & High Voltage Laboratory, you will lead all testing activities associated with the manufacturing, final acceptance, and technical release of Large Power Transformers up to 400 kV and 1550 kV BIL. You will guide the operation of a modern high-voltage laboratory and test field, ensuring that routine, type, special, and customer-specific tests are planned, executed, documented, and released safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with contractual requirements, iternational standards, and internal quality expectations.

This is a hands-on technical leadership role. You will serve as a key technical reference for transformer electrical testing, high-voltage laboratory operation, customer Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT), failure investigation, and technical problem solving. Your engineering judgment will be essential to interpret sophisticated test results, validate transformer readiness for shipment, and support continuous improvement across testing, manufacturing, quality, EHS, and customer-facing processes.

How You'll Make an Impact

Lead the test field and high-voltage laboratory organization, aligning testing priorities with factory objectives, EHS requirements, production schedules, and customer commitments.

Ensure the safe, accurate, and compliant execution of routine, type, special, and customer-specific tests for Large Power Transformers up to 400 kV and 1550 kV BIL.

Provide expert interpretation and technical release of transformer test results, including Partial Discharge measurements, Lightning / Switching Impulse tests, dielectric tests, losses, impedance, ratio, polarity, resistance, and temperature rise results.

Act as a technical reference during customer meetings and FAT execution, explaining testing methodologies, results, deviations, equivalencies, and standard/customer requirement differences with clarity and credibility.

Lead or actively support failure investigations, task forces, and Root Cause Analysis activities related to test discrepancies, non-conformities, customer concerns, and field incidents until technical closure.

Develop team capabilities, strengthen audit readiness and documentation quality, and drive continuous improvement initiatives related to quality, safety, productivity, digitalization, data integrity, and customer satisfaction.

What You Bring

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering required.

Solid technical foundation in power systems, high-voltage engineering, electrical machines, or transformer technology.

Master's Degree preferred in a technical engineering discipline related to Power Systems, High Voltage Engineering, Transformer Design, Electrical Insulation, or Asset Management.

Additional training or specialization in transformer testing, dielectric diagnostics, partial discharge measurement, or high-voltage laboratory operation is preferred.

Professional Experience

Minimum of 10 years of technical experience in power transformer testing, preferably in a manufacturing test field or high-voltage laboratory environment.

Primarily technical experience, not only administrative, with demonstrated capability to interpret test results and make engineering judgments based on technical evidence.

Proven experience with routine, type, special, and customer-specific tests for Large Power Transformers.

Experience interacting directly with customers, consultants, and third-party inspectors during Factory Acceptance Tests.

Experience supporting or leading technical investigations, task forces, and Root Cause Analysis activities related to test discrepancies, non-conformities, customer concerns, or field incidents.

Desirable experience in transformer construction, manufacturing processes, and design principles to support practical and technically sound problem analysis.

Technical Knowledge and Core Competencies

Transformer Testing and Result Interpretation

Advanced understanding of transformer electrical testing and acceptance criteria.

Ability to interpret sophisticated test results, especially Partial Discharge measurements and Lightning / Switching Impulse tests.

Familiarity with induced voltage, applied voltage, resistance, ratio, polarity, impedance, losses, temperature rise, and dielectric test results.

Ability to evaluate test results against applicable standard limits, customer specifications, and internal engineering criteria.

Capability to technically approve and release transformer test reports and determine transformer readiness for shipment based on engineering judgment.

Standards and Customer Requirements

Strong knowledge of IEEE, IEC, and CSA standards applicable to power transformers and transformer testing.

Knowledge of NMX standards is desirable.

Strong preference for candidates with deep knowledge of the IEEE market, including the evolution of standard requirements and customer expectations.

Ability to analyze customer requirements and define testing methodologies that cover contractual expectations and technical compliance.

Ability to identify and explain deviations, equivalencies, and differences between international standards and customer-specific requirements.

Failure Investigation and Technical Problem Solving

Actively participate in failure investigation teams to identify Root Cause Analysis findings.

Participate in multidisciplinary task forces when test discrepancies occur and coordinate technical solutions until closure.

Support definition of corrective and preventive actions and validate technical solutions before implementation.

Contribute to lessons learned, technical risk reduction, and continuous improvement of testing and manufacturing processes.

Customer Interaction

Serve as a technical reference during customer meetings and transformer performance discussions.

Interact with customer representatives during Factory Acceptance Tests and support clear technical communication of test results.

Provide methodology and technical rationale for customer requirement analysis, ensuring alignment with expectations and contractual scope.

Manage technical questions during FAT execution with professionalism, clarity, and strong engineering judgment.

Laboratory Infrastructure and Digital Systems

The role will be responsible for a modern high-voltage test laboratory for Large Power Transformers, including equipment and systems associated with testing up to 400 kV and 1550 kV BIL. The laboratory operates with digital signals and a SCADA-based control environment using SEL systems; therefore, experience with these technologies, or a demonstrated capacity to learn them quickly, is highly desirable.
