EHS Specialist – Construction Projects
A Snapshot of Your Day
The EHS Specialist for Construction Projects is responsible for ensuring that all environmental, health, and safety requirements are effectively implemented throughout all project phases, from mobilization to commissioning. This position plays a key role in maintaining compliance with Siemens Energy standards, client specifications, and local regulations, while fostering a proactive Zero Harm culture across all construction activities. The role also involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams to identify areas for improvement, conduct audits, and ensure compliance with specific certifications and standards such as ISO 14001 and ISO 45001.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Coordinate and oversee daily EHS site inspections to verify compliance with Siemens Energy standards, client requirements, and national and international construction safety regulations, reinforcing the Zero Harm culture across all contractors.
- Monitor high-risk activities such as work at height, confined spaces, lifting operations, and hot works to ensure that the General Contractor and subcontractors implement and maintain effective control measures.
- Lead incident investigations and root-cause analyses to identify contributing factors and verify that preventive and corrective actions are effectively implemented and closed by the responsible parties.
- Support EHS performance reporting by preparing biweekly dashboards, KPI summaries, uploading incidents to digital platforms and performing trend analyses for management, providing visibility into contractor compliance and improvement areas.
- Promote continuous improvement by identifying unsafe conditions, procedural gaps, or deviations in contractor EHS systems, and developing practical recommendations in coordination with project management.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate EHS requirements into project planning, logistics, and execution phases, ensuring alignment between Siemens Energy, the General Contractor, and all stakeholders.
What You Bring
- · Strong leadership and communication skills to engage contractors, clients, and project teams in proactive EHS management.
- · Solid understanding of high-risk construction activities such as confined space entry, work at height, lifting operations, excavations, and hot works.
- · Ability to interpret and apply global EHS standards in alignment with Siemens Energy requirements and international best practices.
- · Demonstrated experience leading incident investigations, root-cause analysis, risk assessment methodologies, rescue plans, and emergency response coordination.
- · Excellent negotiation and influencing skills to guide contractors, project managers, and stakeholders toward proactive safety behavior.
- · Intermediate to advanced English proficiency (spoken and written).
- · Strong analytical, reporting, and teamwork abilities with a consistent focus on operational excellence and continuous improvement.
- · Experience in EHS staff training and registration as an external training agent (DC5) with the Mexican Ministry of Labor (STPS).
- · High proactivity and collaboration to support the development of Siemens Energy’s Zero Harm culture.
- · Commitment to comply with and enforce current protocols, policies, guidelines, and competencies within the Integrated Management System (EHS).
Profile Summary
Safety Engineer with a degree in Environmental, Industrial, or Chemical Engineering, and a minimum of 5 years of professional experience in EHS roles within large-scale construction projects. Proven knowledge of ISO 45001, ISO 14001, OSHA 1926, NFPA, ASME, and applicable Mexican EHS regulations. Demonstrates strong communication, leadership, teamwork, and analytical thinking skills. Possesses technical expertise in construction safety and provides practical and compliant solutions to maintain safe and efficient construction activities.
About the team
The EHS Specialist will report to the EHS Coordinator of the expansion project of the Guanajuato SE GT PR TAM GJT plant. Will be part of the Siemens Energy EHS organization, working closely with Project Management and Construction teams to ensure the successful and safe execution of construction projects. You will collaborate with global and local stakeholders to promote Zero Harm culture and sustainable performance across all project operations.
