A Snapshot of Your Day

As Chief Electrical Engineer, you will take overall technical ownership of the wind turbine electrical system from early architecture scoping to product release and serial production. You will define and integrate the electrical architecture including generator, converter, transformer, switchgear, medium-voltage cables and auxiliary systems, ensuring compliance, safety, reliability and grid performance. You will work closely with other domain owners (mechanical, loads, controls, certification, manufacturing, quality and service) and lead technical collaboration with key suppliers to deliver a robust and cost-competitive electrical system.

How You’ll Make an Impact

•Own end-to-end electrical system design for a new wind turbine from architecture definition through design freeze, verification/validation and release to serial production.

•Define electrical requirements and interfaces across nacelle, hub and tower (power, control, protection, grounding/earthing, EMC, thermal) aligned with certification and safety standards.

•Lead generator and converter system definition (ratings, cooling, insulation, harmonics, protection, fault ride-through, efficiency) and ensure design robustness for the full operating envelope.

•Own MV/HV equipment scope including transformer, switchgear, MV cables and terminations: specification, selection, derating, insulation coordination and protection philosophy.

•Ensure grid performance compliance (power quality, LVRT/HVRT, reactive power capability, frequency response) and coordinate with controls and grid compliance teams on model validation and test evidence.

•Lead electrical system verification and validation including prototype build support, commissioning, functional and type testing, and failure investigations with structured root-cause analysis and corrective actions.

•Work closely with mechanical, loads, controls, certification, manufacturing, quality and service teams to manage interfaces, risks and trade-offs (cost, efficiency, reliability, serviceability).

•Lead technical collaboration with suppliers (generator, converter, transformer, switchgear, cable suppliers): specifications, design reviews, DFMEA, qualification plans, manufacturing readiness and quality assurance.

•Maintain electrical design documentation and standards (single line diagrams, schematics, cable lists, protection settings philosophy, calculation reports, test specifications) in line with internal processes and certification requirements.

•Drive continuous improvement using prototype and fleet feedback (alarms, SCADA, converter logs, thermal margins, failure statistics) to improve electrical reliability and reduce cost of energy.

What You Bring

•BS/MS in Electrical Engineering (or related field) with a valid degree focused on electrical system design. Advanced degree preferred.

•10+ years of experience in wind turbine electrical systems (OEM or tier-1 supplier) with proven track record delivering electrical architecture and serial product releases for new turbine platforms.

•Strong technical expertise in generator, converter and transformer systems, protection and switchgear, MV cabling, EMC/earthing, insulation coordination, and thermal management.

•Solid understanding of grid performance and power quality requirements (LVRT/HVRT, reactive power, harmonics/flicker) and experience supporting grid compliance studies and validation testing.

•Hands-on experience with electrical system engineering methods and tools (SLD/schematics, load-flow and short-circuit studies, cable sizing/derating, protection coordination, insulation coordination, thermal calculations, DFMEA).

•Ability to lead technical discussions and design reviews with suppliers and internal stakeholders; experienced in requirements, specifications, design change control and risk management.

•Demonstrated experience working in cross-functional and international engineering teams.

•Strong ownership mindset with the ability to coordinate electrical interfaces across mechanical, controls, loads, certification, manufacturing and service to deliver an integrated turbine electrical system.

•Experience in technical / engineering support to customers.

•Ability to work and thrive independently and in a team environment.

•Excellent communication (written and verbal) and presentation proficiency.
