A Snapshot of Your Day
The Senior Substation Engineer plays a crucial role in the design and execution of Air Insulated Switchgear (AIS) and Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) EPC projects, applying extensive technical expertise to ensure the reliability and safety of electrical systems. This position involves developing project design criteria and creating comprehensive design packages that guide the construction and operation of substations. The role requires collaboration with cross-functional teams, including sales and project management, to address potential challenges and provide innovative solutions. The Senior Substation Engineer is responsible for following industry standards, ensuring project delivery on time and within budget, and prioritizing safety and regulations.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Develop project design criteria. Prepare main one line and station auxiliary one-line diagrams.
- Develop substation/switchyard general arrangement, layout and elevation drawings.
- Develop Grounding drawings. Perform cable ampacity, grounding, lightning, illumination and station auxiliary load calculations.
- Create equipment specifications and detail bill of materials. Perform trench and conduit design.
- Supporting camera and Gas density Monitor design. Develop conceptual designs for pricing purposes. Perform electrical engineering design and calculations.
- Create equipment specifications and detail bill of materials. Review manufacturer's documentation. Develop engineering execution plans in support of a particular project schedule.
Develop Conceptual Layouts for HVDC and SVC. Ensures that the engineering deliverables meet the target schedule dates, inform the Project Manager or Tender Manager of possible delays or risk in the particular project. Support Marketing and Project teams in the execution of a project and in customer meetings. Identify, notify, and provide solutions on potential problems that may adversely impact safety, reliability, cost, and schedule on a project. Perform special assignments and provide technical advice in the area of expertise. Knowledge on ANSI standards, IEC standards knowledge is a plus.
What You Bring
This position requires an Electrical Engineering degree. Electronics and Mechanical engineering degrees can be acceptable if the experience is aligned with the high voltage substations or FACTS projects. Master’s in electrical engineering is preferred.
- 10 or more-year experience with a focus on primary electrical design for high voltage substations or FACTS projects.
- Fluent English Language
- Knowledge on ANSI standards, IEC standards knowledge is a plus.
- Experience with equipment typically used in substations. Familiar with Auto-CAD, Micro-Station and Revit are a plus.
- Professional Engineering license preferred.
- The candidate should be flexible to travel locally and internationally to customer meetings and to project sites. Approximate travel is 20%.
