A Snapshot of Your Day

As an Operations Engineer within our UK & IE Operation & Maintenance (O&M) business, you will support the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of our OCGT power plants at Hirwaun, Progress, and Millbrook.

Your role will involve monitoring plant operations from the remote control room, responding to operational events in real time, and supporting maintenance and engineering activities to ensure plant availability and performance. Working within a 24/7 operational environment, you will collaborate closely with site teams, customers, National Grid, and technical specialists to maintain operational excellence and compliance across the fleet.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Monitor and control plant operations on a continuous basis, including plant start-up, shutdown, alarm response, and operational logging.
  • Ensure plant activities are carried out safely and in compliance with operational, environmental, and engineering procedures.
  • Support efficient plant performance and availability by following established work plans and safe systems of work.
  • Liaise with customers, National Grid, traders, and external stakeholders to support daily operational requirements.
  • Maintain accurate operational reporting and compliance submissions, including REMIT, EDL, and EDT information.
  • Utilise plant and asset management systems to manage logs, faults, work orders, and operational records.
  • Support T3000 logic modifications and simulation activities to maintain plant safety and reliability.
  • Contribute to the development of Siemens Energy Asset Care programmes and operational excellence initiatives.
  • Support Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and Failure Mode Effects Analysis (FMEA) investigations into operational events and incidents.
  • Provide support to site operations and deputise for the Senior Operations Engineer when required.

What You Bring

  •  HNC qualification, or equivalent, in an engineering-related discipline
  •  Experience within power generation, heavy industry, or a similar operational engineering environment.
  • Good understanding of power plant principles, including plant performance, efficiency, and operational processes.
  • Experience supporting plant operation and maintenance activities
  •  Knowledge of Health & Safety processes and Safe Systems of Work.
  • IOSH qualification, or equivalent Health & Safety training, is desirable
  •  Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with the ability to respond effectively under pressure.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across teams and stakeholders.
  • Ability to prioritise workload effectively within a fast-paced operational environment.
  • Strong focus on operational safety, reliability, and continuous improvement.

Our Gas Services division offers Low-emission power generation through service and decarbonization. Zero or low emission power generation and all gas turbines under one roof, steam turbines and generators. Decarbonization opportunities through service offerings, modernization, and digitalization of the fleet.
