A Snapshot of Your Day

We are looking for a Head of Operational Procurement, based in Lincoln reporting into the Head of Procurement for SGT. You will lead a team of approx. 20 employees being a mix of Operational Buyers and Schedulers being accountable for the sourcing of parts to meet the companies demand. You will be responsible for the delivery of parts to time, cost and quality, involved in the resolution of any commercial or quality issues hindering supply. In addition, as part of the extended Supply Chain Management team you will be responsible for the training and development of their teams, contributing to SC Strategies and functional transformation. As cost centre owners they will also be responsible for creating and managing departmental budgets. The right candidate will have a degree or equivalent experience in an appropriate subject or comparable industry experience. They will have team management experience and able to collaborate with multiple internal collaborators.

How You’ll Make an Impact
  • Evaluate and identify the organisation's and stakeholders' needs. Additionally, negotiates contracts, pricing, terms, and service level agreements
  • Lead a team of procurement professionals responsible for purchasing of direct / indirect materials
  • Actively seek improvements in supply chain activities and performance, primarily through coordination and collaboration with Supply Chain and Category Management Team and drive implementation in own area of responsibility.
  • Ensure that all the products and services are acquired adequately so that the businesses projects and processes can proceed efficiently (cloud, data analytics, vendor management, SaaS, and more)
  • Implement and ensure usage of globally defined methods, processes and systems to ensure high process efficiency and process compliance (e.g. compliant Purchase-to-Pay (P2P) process, Procurement guidelines, IT systems)
  • Monitor the markets worldwide to create a basis for deciding the optimum sourcing strategy
  • Define and implement procurement strategies (which are not covered by Commodity strategies) based on conducted demand, market and supplier analysis to ensure long-term, cost-efficient and reliable on-time supply of materials in the required quality
  • Prepare and conduct negotiations for medium to high Purchasing Volumes to acquire the highest feasible savings
  • Generate, document and implement savings, plan, monitor and report on relevant critical metrics to contribute to the success of the business and make results transparent
  • Support Supplier Management processes (e.g. qualification, selection, evaluation, development, classification); update supplier evaluation systems to obtain and develop the best suppliers and ensure transparency
  • Ensure a close cooperation with Internal Customers (requisitioners) to ensure customer care and early involvement
  • Plan and ensure the use of selected suppliers and materials in accordance with the company's delivery plan.
  • Drive and participate in the development of the operational parts of the purchasing process and develop the group's interface to other operations. Digitalization gives us great opportunities today.

What You Bring
  • Has profound knowledge and broad experience – preferable in the Engineering Industry. Analyses, interprets, structures, and presents extensive and/or complex data and information on the topic. Effectively performs high-reaching tasks, independently choosing the optimal solution or method from different options.
  • Experience in applying data analytics related methods and tools. Knows a broad range of data analytics-related technologies and methods
  • Identifies and implements measures to ensure the adherence of the suppliers to the requirements of Compliance.
  • Knows and understands contract templates and applies/adjusts them to more complex contract situations. Secures requirements from customer contracts in supplier contracts (back to back). Has a more detailed understanding of legal terms and their influence on the business relationships. Ensures that contracts concluded by oneself are applied and implemented.
  • Knows the cost structure of one's own commodity in detail and leverages improvement potentials. Minimises the suppliers´ cost by putting of relevant instruments and levers (technical and commercial) to good use
  • Prepares material field strategies for their responsibility independently;
  • Independently prepares and carries out mid-complex negotiations (incl. negotiation strategy, max/min goal, fallback position, role allocation, target costing). Coordinates involved cross-functions. Applies innovative negotiation methods. Knows the relevant behavioural patterns in negotiations and is able to use them. Adapts to negotiation partners from different cultures.
  • Knows and understands the support process and Procurement process. Has process experiences in own area of responsibility. Knows the interfaces to all relevant processes (e.g. Export control regulations).
  • Carries out the complete Supplier Management process, incl. classification, strategic status, supplier development. Knows the suppliers' strategic plans. Drives continous improvement actions. Uses the Digital Supplier Manager Companion (if applicable).
  • Deals with the typical objections from suppliers and is familiar with the overall Siemens sustainability program and strategy. Identifies and implements measures (e.g. during visits and suppliers’ premises) to ensure suppliers contribution to a sustainable Procurement
  • Proactively anticipates and prevents ambiguous problems. Manages the implementation of solutions in the form of projects.
