A Snapshot of Your Day 

 

As an Experienced Customs and Audit Expert, you ensure the correct implementation of customs-related guidelines and monitor compliance across the organization. You lead official customs audits and take on related organizational and supervisory duties, primarily in Germany. In this role, you report directly to the Regional Head of Customs Europe. 

 

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Develop and maintain existing regulations through regular monitoring in close contact with the responsible customs country. Build a system for proactive issue detection and optimize customs processes.
  • Conduct spot checks to ensure uniform legal application and build a customs network in the European region.
  • Establish a shared legal understanding, implement standard methodologies, and take ownership of relevant policy expertise.
  • Impart knowledge through training for colleagues handling customs topics, including group companies. Implement a program tailored to the target group and incorporating e-learning components.
  • Define customs law requirements for IT systems and implement them with internal operational departments and customs Functional Excellence.
  • Lead customs audits in Germany, handle related organizational tasks, and support legal inquiries. Accompany audits across the European customs region. Conduct on-site audits, mainly in Germany and within the European Customs Union.


What You Bring
  • Degree in economics or law with a focus on foreign trade and customs, or equivalent experience in customs administration.
  • Extensive hands-on customs expertise, especially in export/import (including special procedures), AEO, and origin law (preferential and non-preferential), with experience in operational roles within a matrix organization. Skilled in preparing for and conducting customs audits.
  • Decisive and communicative, with a structured, analytical approach, strong organizational and quality management skills, and an independent, non-hierarchical working style. You enjoy building new solutions from the ground up.
  • International project experience, especially in project management and organizational development. Strong negotiation, presentation, and moderation skills, with proven track record to lead distributed and remote teams.
  • Experienced in customs and ERP systems, including requirement specification, testing, and implementation.
  • Fluent in German and business-fluent in English; additional European languages—particularly Spanish—are a plus. Willing to travel within Germany and the EU (approx. 10–20%).
