A Snapshot of Your Day
As a Customs Specialist, your role focuses on customs classification, origin management (preferential and non-preferential), and the execution of import and export customs clearance activities under various customs procedures.
You will support operations in South Africa while interacting with stakeholders across the MEA region, working closely with internal teams, customs brokers, and local authorities to ensure compliant, efficient, and smooth cross-border movements of goods.
How You’ll Make an Impact
You will play a key role in ensuring customs compliance, operational efficiency, and risk mitigation across the region.
Key responsibilities include:
- Execute import and export customs clearance operations in collaboration with internal and external partners, using relevant ERP / SAP / trade solutions.
- Analyze and classify goods in accordance with customs regulations, considering technical product characteristics.
- Review and validate trade and customs documentation required for clearance processes involving suppliers, associations, and other stakeholders.
- Calculate and determine country of origin (preferential and non-preferential).
- Manage customs brokers by instructing, controlling, and monitoring brokerage activities.
- Approve and coordinate payment transactions related to customs duties and brokerage services.
- Conduct and support post-clearance audits to ensure compliance and continuous improvement.
What You Bring
Qualifications & Experience
- Diploma or certificate in Customs, Economics, Foreign Trade Law, or a comparable field.
- 3–5 years of experience in customs operations, with strong practical knowledge of customs regulations, foreign trade rules, and logistics processes.
- Solid understanding of Incoterms.
- Ability to translate legal and regulatory requirements into operational processes and system solutions.
- Experience with customs and ERP systems is a plus.
- Initial international exposure (working in international teams or abroad) is an advantage.

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, with the ability to interact effectively with internal stakeholders and local customs authorities.
- Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
- Structured problem-solving mindset with the ability to manage complex customs scenarios.
- Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within cross-functional teams.
