A Snapshot of Your Day
Join Siemens Gamesa as a Blades Structural Modelling and Monitoring Engineer for the Reliablade-II initiative, while enrolling in a PhD at Technical University of Denmark. Your tasks include computational modelling, data analysis, academic research, planning and coordination of test activities with interested parties and team members. You will be reviewing simulation results, comparing them to test results and refining models to improve predictive accuracy. During a typical day you will also join meetings with other project members to discuss sensor integration strategies in turbine blades, plan demonstration activities and coordinate execution of related tasks. Throughout the day, you will coordinate with your academic supervisors from SGRE and DTU, study the literature on structural health monitoring and Digital-Twin technologies, and prepare the dissemination of your work in conferences and journal articles.
How You’ll Make an Impact
- Conduct finite element modeling of damage in composite wind turbine blades.
- Establish quantitative relationships between non-destructive testing (NDT) results and damage criticality.
- Assess the variability in manufacturing defects/imperfections for monitoring structural well-being.
- Understand the requirements and constraints affecting the implementation of digital twin hardware and software in large-scale wind turbines.
- Lead the validation trials for technology mirroring wind turbine functionality on a grand scale, encompassing planning and instrumentation.
- Publish high-quality research papers in international journals and present results at conferences and symposiums.
What You Bring

- A Master’s (120 ECTS points) or a similar qualification equivalent to a two-year master’s.
- A strong background in one or more core technical fields: mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, physics engineering, structural engineering, solid mechanics, or related fields.
- Solid experience with finite element simulations of composite materials and structures.
- Proficient knowledge in sensors, non-invasive assessment, and methods for coordinating structural health.
- Excellent English communication skills, both written and oral.
- A proactive attitude and the ability to collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary and multinational teams.
About the Team
In this position, you will join the Siemens Gamesa Technology Blades Features team, a global team responsible for the full value-stream integration of Blades Add-ons, Protection Systems, and Sensors. This multidisciplinary team includes engineers from electrical, mechanical, and sensor domains. As part of the Technology Blades module, the team focuses on R&D, product development of new blades, as well as providing technical support and problem-solving in production and fleet operations. Join the Reliablade-II project team and enroll at DTU as a PhD student in Wind and Energy Systems.
