Do you like to tackle problems that help others and provide the best support regarding Materials possible to our products within Siemens Energy, especially for our large gas turbine products?
The High Temperature Materials Engineer is a meaningful position in Materials and Technology, belonging to a team developing complex technologies pertaining to gas turbine efficiency and reliability.
The primary focus of this position is on the investigation and development of high temperature materials used in our gas turbine products. It includes material selection and development to meet gas turbine efficiency and reliability targets in support of our decarbonization goals. Collaborating with a network of materials engineers and using your technical knowledge and materials modeling skills, you assist in material development. In this context, you will play a decisive role while constantly moving our materials landscape forward!
How You will Make an Impact
- Support future materials strategies with expert materials knowledge, supported by testing und modelling activities, for new and advanced high temperature materials and materials systems
- Coordinate material development projects in global teams, from project initiation, feasibility studies to test planning and generation of property curves for gas turbine design
- Consult colleagues in gas turbine design and service engineering in any materials related topics
- Support of qualifications & definition of material specifications
- Defining and managing project schedule, achievements, and budget
What You Bring
- Master or PhD in Materials Sciences or Mechanical Engineering with focus on Materials Engineering; 5+ years related experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience.
- Deep understanding of materials science (e.g. alloy design, microstructural evolution, deformation mechanisms for metallic materials); Significant knowledge in metallurgy, manufacturing & mechanical behavior of nickel-based superalloys; Understanding of gas turbine and steam turbine technology and basic understand of FEA modeling desirable.
- Experience in materials modelling (Numerical simulation applying for example ThermoCalc, programming using python, data analysis or similar) to predict and optimize materials properties highly desirable
- Experience of collaborating in multidisciplinary research networks / project consortia & very good project management skills.
- Balancing multiple and urgent topics at the same time & setting priorities.
- Advanced English, German is a plus.
