A Snapshot of your day

As a Chemist at the Khormala Power Plant, your day involves monitoring and controlling WTP systems, collecting and analyzing water, steam, fuel, and chemical samples to ensure parameters are within limits and compliance is maintained. You collaborate with engineering to resolve anomalies, prepare regulatory reports, conduct safety checks, and work on process improvements. The day typically concludes with reviewing findings, planning for the next day, and aligning chemical processes with plant operations.

How You’ll Make an Impact

  • Operate, monitor, and adjust WTP, boiler sampling systems, and ammonia dosing systems, ensuring parameters are within limits, chemicals are sufficient, and abnormalities are reported and resolved.
  • Collect and analyze water, steam, and fuel samples to ensure compliance with quality standards, perform necessary adjustments and prepare reports with recommendations.
  • Monitor and maintain water quality in various systems (e.g., feedwater, cooling water, wastewater), ensuring regulatory compliance and conducting regular maintenance and calibration of online analyzers.
  • Develop and implement chemical treatment programs to prevent scaling, corrosion, and biological growth while optimizing performance and minimizing environmental impact.
  • Oversee laboratory operations, ensuring equipment calibration, adherence to safety standards, and conduct experiments to enhance plant performance and reliability.
  • Collaborate with teams to optimize chemical processes, ensure compliance with safety and environmental standards, address challenges, and participate in innovative initiatives to improve efficiency and sustainability.

What You Bring

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field, with advanced degrees preferred.
  • Proven experience in water treatment plant operations, boiler chemistry control, and chemical laboratory environments, particularly in the energy sector.
  • Strong understanding of water treatment principles, chemical analysis techniques, and safety/environmental regulations, especially in Iraq.
  • Proficient in navigating technical documentation, regulatory requirements, and laboratory equipment usage.
  • Excellent problem-solving, attention to detail, and communication skills in English (written and spoken).
  • Demonstrated success in HSE and Quality performance within the energy industry.
