A Snapshot of Your Day

In the System Design, our investigations lay the theoretical foundation for HVDC systems and create technically optimized solutions for our customers to address the challenges of the energy transition. The daily work is very varied, as no HVDC project is like the other. Conducting detailed design calculations using analytical or simulation methods is just as much a part of the daily tasks as collaborating and coordinating with other teams within Siemens Energy to achieve the best solution for our customers. Furthermore, we present the results of our design studies to our customers and, if necessary, verify them through appropriate measurements and tests. Additionally, there is the opportunity to advance and shape cross-team collaboration within the HVDC area through training, workshops, continuous improvement, or digitalization

Are you a recent graduate or an early career professional eager to make a significant impact in the energy sector? Join Siemens Energy and help shape the future of Power Transmission. This unique opportunity offers you a full-time, permanent job at Siemens Energy, along with the opportunity to join our exclusive Grid Engineering Academy and participate in the Power Engineering Starter Program.

Power Engineering Starter Program is a unique upskilling program designed to equip you with the necessary project management, interpersonal and technical skills primarily in High Voltage Direct Current (HVDC) and Flexible Alternating Current Transmission Systems (FACTS). The program spans 12 months and runs in parallel with your full-time job, ensuring you gain valuable experience and knowledge without interrupting your career progression.

This program includes:
Learning cycles
Networking events
Classroom and virtual training
On-the-job training
Personal and professional development opportunities
International site visits

You will actively contribute to the energy transition and immerse yourself in a thriving market environment where innovation and growth intersect. You will engage in projects that deliver the key technology to transmit electricity from where it’s generated to where it's needed, and even connect countries.

How You’ll Make an Impact
  • Development of HVDC system concepts as solutions to individual project requirements to support the energy transition worldwide
  • Creation of design-relevant studies for HVDC projects in the proposal and execution phase (e.g., stationary design of the operating range of HVDC systems or transient design of the insulation coordination of the HVDC system)
  • Close collaboration and coordination with other teams in the HVDC area for versatile optimization and further development of complex HVDC overall systems (e.g., neighboring teams in engineering, sales, converter development, control and protection)
  • Participation in research and development of novel HVDC applications in agile teams from different disciplines
  • Opportunity to take on sub-project management for system design in complex large-scale HVDC projects from proposal to commissioning
What You Bring
  • A completed Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, ideally with a focus on Power Electronics, High Voltage Technology, Energy Transmission Systems, or High-Frequency Technology
  • Willingness to learn new things, independence and initiative, solution-oriented action
  • Knowledge and interest in simulation tools and programming languages (e.g., PSCAD, Matlab)
  • Very good German and English skills, and ideally experience in intercultural collaboration
About the Team
