A Snapshot of your day

Siemens Energy Grid Technologies deliver systems to the energy industry that provide for safe operation and monitoring of power systems and equipment using a range of innovative products.
You will work within the multi-disciplined Engineering team delivering the next generation of condition monitoring systems for high voltage electrical substations.  Your primary role will be focused on operational software and involve the specification, testing and delivery of new and existing solutions to meet customer requirements. You will respond to technical problems and customer support queries relating to systems and solutions and deliver functional enhancements to existing sites/systems.

How You’ll Make an Impact

Day-to-day you will be responsible for supporting the technical delivery of projects in the electricity transmission sector, with an emphasis on condition monitoring equipment software. This will include:
  • Developing the detailed design of the project technical architecture
  • Undertaking site acceptance testing (SAT) and factory acceptance testing (FAT) and pre-commissioning activities to customer specification on a range of technical equipment.
  • Installing, configuring, and operating of software applications and services
  • Providing technical software support to customers and other stakeholders
  • Ensuring on-going focus on product quality, project planning, cost control and health and safety
  • Working as part of the team or independently when required
  • Assessing operational feedback and proactively engaging with appropriate resolutions
  • Building on existing and maintaining relationships with internal business partners for engineering support
  • Keeping up to date with new technologies by attending external & internal courses, self-learning and ensuring skills match evolving technologies


Your Profile

Qualifications
  • Degree level qualification in Electrical/Electronic Engineering/Computer Science or related disciplines/experience
Requirements
  • Knowledge of modern computer technology, communication protocols and Operating Systems (including Linux and Windows)
  • Cyber security tools and processes
  • Confident in deploying and configuring software packages and patches
  • Experience with networking devices and topologies (IP based)
  • Experience of working within a team
  • Must be able to work on own initiative for problem solving and provide innovative solutions
  • Ability to learn new skills and techniques quickly and efficiently
  • Knowledge and understanding of mechanical assembly & electrical drawing concepts
  • Must hold UK driving licence
Requirements - Ideal
  • Software scripting and programming skills
  • Knowledge of SCADA and other Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) alarm systems
  • Experience with cloud technologies such as AWS or MS Azure
  • Experience within the electrical transmission industry is advantageous but not essential
  • Experience working with equipment within a live low voltage environment


Position in Organisation
  • You will report to the Monitoring & Technology Delivery Lead.  
  • You will be required to work from Newcastle (UK) with the possibility of national and international travel
