A Snapshot of Your Day
Responsible for providing environmentally safe performance of field service of transformer projects, with minimal to no supervision and in accordance with customer, industry and corporate laws, regulations and standards. Technical field services assignments will be assembly, installation, modification, test, inspection, service and/or repair of distribution and power transformers.
How You’ll Make an Impact
● Perform complex transformer field service operations that require strong technical skills. Execute all rigging tasks related with transformer service, including re-gasketing of transformers as well as cutting new gaskets / o-rings as needed. Perform full Siemens Energy Canada acceptance testing scope, conduct condition assessment and receipt inspections. Provide detailed explanations of test results.
● Troubleshoot and repair transformer equipment, applying own knowledge and experience to resolve problems, recommend changes or modified procedures to improve performance and customer satisfaction. Perform repairs and maintenance on oil processor equipment daily/weekly/monthly or annual basis, per maintenance schedule, or as assigned
● Assist Crew Leader with planning of field service team project set-up, resource requirements, site management, coordination of equipment and vendors (including lodging and travel, scheduling of heavy equipment, tankers, test equipment), gathering data & preparing field service job reports and non-conformance reports.
● Provide leadership and guide less experienced technicians, instructing them in proper and safe operation of equipment
● Apply Siemens Energy Canada Zero Harm Culture and communicate clearly and professionally, (written and/or verbal), regarding project scope, safety reviews, security or environmental incidents, safety violations or near misses.
What You Bring
● High School diploma, GED or technical vocational or apprenticeship training, combined with minimum 4 years of experience in technical assembly, maintenance and repair of power and distribution transformers / transformer accessories in utility / energy electrical industry
● Comprehensive skills to interpret the scope of work, assembly, general arrangement drawings, electrical prints and one-line diagrams, as well as test data and factory instruction manuals. Must be able to implement the correct operation of transformer oil processing, including vacuum, cold trap, oil filling, circulating and draining oil-filled transformers as well as experience in dry-out processes. Must complete documentation of the process, as required.
● Possess strong hands-on experience in material handling, uncrating, forklift operation, commercial and industrial electrical wiring, as well as managing performing service maintenance of Siemens Energy Canada vehicles, oil processing equipment, generators and test equipment
● Must be a team player with effective communication skills and ability to lead less experienced staff and very good time management and analytical skills to multi-task and manage multiple priorities and select most effective approaches and adapt standard practices and procedures to resolve complex technical problems.
● Prior supervisory skills required to lead the performance of assigned field personnel (crew members and subcontractors), in addition to promoting a healthy, safe and environment friendly work place
● Competency in PC skills, including email, internet, data entry into on-line tools, MS Word and Windows based software
